Demand for technical and engineering talent is rising in Singapore, according to Indeed’s May 2025 Hiring Lab report.
Civil engineering roles led the growth, with job postings up nearly 19% since February 2025. Mechanical and industrial engineering followed with increases of 14% and 6.5% respectively, reflecting a strong hiring appetite in the infrastructure and manufacturing sectors.
Other growing segments included childcare (+13%), sports (+12%) and data analytics (+5.6%). Management job postings also edged up by 1.3%, now accounting for 13.5% of total listings, while education roles rose to 4.7%, up from 4.3% a year ago.
Software development experienced a modest 0.9% rise in recent months, although it declined 1.2 percentage points year-over-year, which is the sharpest drop across all roles tracked. Retail, marketing and scientific research also posted slight annual declines.
Healthcare hiring slumped significantly. Job postings for pharmacists fell 45%, while positions in veterinary services, physicians and surgeons, medical technicians, and medical information all declined around 18-19%.
Overall, job postings dropped 0.9% month-on-month, marking the fifth straight monthly decline. However, the volume remains 40% higher than pre-pandemic levels, and unemployment is still low at 2.1%.
“While job creation is cooling, the overall labour market remains tight,” said Callam Pickering, Indeed’s Senior Economist, noting that skill shortages persist despite mixed hiring trends.
